AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that was created to fight poverty in America. Christen Allen is in her third year as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Through VISTA, Christen Allen's mission is to assist low-income communities by contributing to and assisting in the growth of local organizations that are focused around improving illiteracy, health services, and economic development. Beyond Energy League, Christen Allen participates in many service projects in Monmouth and the surrounding regions. VISTA stands for Volunteers In Service To America. A VISTA member fully commits a year to serve for a specific program at a nonprofit organization.
A VISTA develops programs that meet the needs of their community. Another responsibility of a VISTA is to write grant proposals, and recruit and train volunteers for the programs they develop.
