Cathy Betar is the Area Director for Area 4 of the Illinois Special Olympics and has been the director for 26 years. Her office is located in Monmouth and she basically runs the entire office. She does just about everything in the office including answering the phone, making copies, cleaning, etc. Cathy works on average 10 hours a day. Her entire life is truly dedicated to the Special Olympics and helping individuals with special needs. She just recently was able to hire a secretary that helps her out. She has many volunteers that come into the office and help her with duties such as copying and preparing for events.
"The Area Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overall managerial and administrative responsibility for the Area program in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures set forth by Special Olympics. The Area Director has responsibility for fostering a positive culture and team environment among all constituencies within the area and towards Special Olympics. The Area Director and his/her leadership team have the vital role of developing and maintaining strong relationships within their Area to ensure the values of respect, tolerance and acceptance are understood and displayed throughout the activities of the Area by all athletes, coaches, family members and volunteers.
