United States Vetran

After graduating high school in 1940, a short two years later Dave joined the military. David served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a first lieutenant in the Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 (seeing action in Europe as a B-17 navigator). He was also in the Illinois National Guard's 44th Infantry Division from 1948 to 1959, reaching the rank of captain, with an active duty tour during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Mary commented on his time in the military, "Dave was in the Army for a while and a lot people forget that, but that was definitely something that shaped who he was and motivated him to better the community." http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/pjstar/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=137471391
